I’ve been on the quiet side of late, partly because of cat overload and partly because I’m low on fun ingredients, so I’ve decided to tide you over til the next post on Friday with this What I ate & What I Wanted to Eat mashup. My WIAW posts are pretty standard since I’m a creature of habit, so I thought it would be fun to show you what I craved next to what I actually munched, since I’m sure I’m not the only one who is always grumpy at the lack of daily flair to their meals.
Breakfast/05h30: the usual papaya, water + lettuce spiced smoothie atop 1/2 cup all bran (stock photo out of the archives, I’m afraid!)What I Wanted to Eat: Fig newton smoothie (GF) – fig season really is a magical time of year, and being able to make this from one’s own tree is just extra fabulous! I mustn’t forget to get Man-thing to water the thing…Snack/08h30: chai tea powder mix + a super delicious dense brownie (recipe coming soon) What I Wanted to Eat: Boozy rice nog (GF) …just without the booze! This was actually such a fabulous drink – sweet but healthy and rather silky – Man-thing was rather intrigued, even though drinks usually seem to bore him, so I may make this again sooner rather than later. The brownie is just awesome, so no complaints there. It’s also rather filling so it tides me over whilst fixing my chocolate craving and is packed with nutrients so it’s not “too early”. Sometimes people are weird and have this obsession about waiting til a certain hour before consuming certain goods, and to be honest chocolate has no hour; it can and should happen any time.Tea-time: 5 crackers + carrot sticks (didn’t get around to the avo yet)What I Wanted to Eat: Fruit leather (GF) – this is a super old post I’m linking to, with much shame, but if I was less circumspect about our electricity bill I would make this again in a heartbeat. I bought fruit rolls last week for training and as delicious as it was the store-bought stuff is way too thick and sweet.Lunch/14h30 – 16h00: steamed turnip, lentil sprouts and 1/2 cup cannelini beans + 1/2 small avo with a splash of salsa, followed by cucumber sticks, chai tea + 1 low-cal vegan cookie. What I Wanted to Eat: Handheld carrot hot dogs (GF). What can I say but yum? This was so delicious and so much fun to eat that a meal became more than fuel and had a very awesome mood-enhancing effect, which is always welcome. I went home early with a massive migraine from hell so the nausea kept me from munching at my usual time. I’ve had migraines daily for the past two weeks and it’s getting ridiculous to chow down so many pain pills; another reason my posts have been scarce! Anyway, I watched some crazy crime documentaries to lull me to an afternoon nap, which supposedly helps but just makes me feel more lazy.Dinner/19h00: Steamed zucchini, tomatoes and lentil sprouts with a bit of salsa. I thought I had asparagus salad cuts in the pantry and was looking forward to it all day, so that was rather a splash of sadness, but zucchini has been a staple for dinner for what feels like an eternity, so it wasn’t a shock to the system to be betrayed by my inept shopping skills of late :pWhat I Wanted to Eat: I wouldn’t have said no to some Cauliflower steak + sweet potato patties (GF)! I’m quite a sucker for cauliflower, even if it doesn’t always like me back. I still have a few awesome cauliflower flatbreads lying around that I need to finish up, but sometimes a cauliflower steak just creates a sense of heartiness that can’t be beat.
Dessert/20h00: vegan jelly, a block of 90% dark choc (unpictured), some handfuls of popcorn + some papaya (ok, so I was hungrier than I thought?) What I Wanted to Eat: Sachertorte ice-cream cones (GF). Nuff said, eh? *drool face*Pre-bed/22h30: 2 TBSP oat bran + soy milk + prune purée. I had late night munchies since my nap threw me off and I ended up watched series until just before midnight.What I Wanted to Eat: I actually love this combo. It’s like cereal for pre-bed bliss. I probably shouldn’t go so large before snoozing (and some days it kicks my butt), but it’s mentally calming, so too bad! 😀
