WIAW with a vengeance! Last week my attempts at WIAW were foiled by loadshedding and a feeling that I would essentially be spamming everyone with poorly-lit phone photos, but luckily yesterday was a public holiday so it looked a tiny bit better (but not much!), and thus I offer up my eats and treats 😀
Breakfast/08h00: 1/2 papaya with all-bran, 1 TBSP flax powder, soy milk and prune purée – I absolutely adore papaya season, and this is the lazier way to enjoy them, but every bit as delicious as a smoothie or any other form.
Teatime/11h00: clementine + steamed carrots with lemon juice. A few bites also of the amazing brownie ice-cream I made (coming soon!). Lunch/12h30: steamed eggplant, mashed pumpkin with salsa and tabasco sauce, fail!chickpea pancake with a blob of homemade hummus and peppers. I had to dash this all down the gullet since I forgot about another farewell my dad and them were hosting, this time for colleagues and friends. Apparently he wanted to show them what I looked like, but I’m not all that fascinating so I made small talk about zombies and how cute my siblings are and then scrammed out of there. Afternoon snack # 1/15h30: I quickly guzzled some coffee and a delish no-sugar cookie or two. Afternoon snack #2/16h00: apple pie smoothie (coming soon!)Dinner: 1 wholewheat wrap with 1/2 cup lentils, salsa, hummus, steamed eggplant, green beans and zucchini.Post dinner: 1 cucumber, a few pieces sundried tomatoes, x2 hot carobs with boiling water and tea (it’s winter here so any excuse for one’s daily water rations in chocolate form is clearly justified).Dessert/20h00: 1/2 cup sugar-free jelly with some sprinkles of all bran, puffed brown rice and choc chips, and half a black cherry bar that I won as part of a package from Driftwood Magazine (who does features on Vegan Faces which I participated in earlier this year – check it out!). It arrived ages ago and I totally forgot since it appeared in the middle of my hectic assignment submission time). Nom! Apart from the yum treat, I also got some pretty radical pins and postcards – so cute! 😀 All in all a productive munching day. I also did some recipe testing (this upcoming ebook is going to be short but awesome!), made meringue-based goodies, and have generally been trying to fit in as much food as possible during daylight hours so I can take snaps (of course, someone has to eat it all, and winters are the time for insatiable munchies, so I need bigger pants sometime soon!).
I also bought two bushels worth of turnips and have no idea what to do with them – thoughts? I usually just steam and munch but want to do something special.
