WIAW and first world problems

Today’s WIAW is a usual spread of eats, all of which I need to start revamping! I’m the sort that, once I figure out what I like, stick with it pretty much forever, but with next week looming and two jobs in one day, my time for the blog will be even less since I don’t get the “luxury” of two days off a week. First world problem of choice: being employed every day (but admittedly still for peanuts!). So now I’m going to have to rewire my timing to still bring fun new recipes but made in between loadshedding, cat shelter stuff, family duties and other things on weekends, which is usually when I kick back and have one big pajama party. Ah well, onto yesterday’s eats!

I decided to take most of my photos at home (such as the lunch and snack), since my phone camera leaves much to be desired, but wintertime in my kitchen is also not the lush lighting I would prefer, so either way my apologies :p

Breakfast/05h30: Soy powder with coffee (hence why it looks like it does), 1/2 a papaya with 1 TBSP chia seeds mixed with 1/4 cup soy milk and 2 tsp psyllium husk + prune purée + 1/2 cup oats cooked with water and cinnamon. Was still hungry and ate a cookie (not pictured). Then more hunger. O.0 I apologize for these photos, truly! My kitchen isn’t really ideal for these “while I was busy” photos since there’s shadow everywhere and coffee spills for decoration.

breakfastboatsTea-time/10h00: 1 small navel orange + 2 TBSP protein powder plus coffee powder. I know there seems to be this big dependence on protein powder of late but I’m out of crackers and other typical snack food, and haven’t had time to make the quiche I had planned on – ah well!

teatimesoyLunch/12h30: 2 medium carrots, steamed zucchini and green beans with some salsa and tasty turnip apple soup for the upcoming ebook masquerading as a sauce. Yum!

turniplunchPost-work + pre-power walk/16h00ish: 1 green pepper, 1 banana + 1 tsp PB + coffee. Nom. nom. nom!

postworkmunchies prewalksnackDinner/19h00: 1 small steamed gemsquash stuffed with 1/4 cup chickpeas atop steamed cauliflower and zucchini with salsa, sided by some storebought veggie soup with steamed green beans. I may have a bit of a steaming obsession but these days with the fear of loadshedding hanging over one’s head you really do end up relying heavily on something that can be done in under 5 minutes, just in case. Luckily no loadshedding, so I could pal about with my walking partner and slurp up tea to rehydrate. I also made her eat the most gingery ginger cookie known to man (it’s supposed to go with ice-cream eventually), but her face was pretty hilarious. :p

dinnersoupPost-dinner dessert + random snacks: Somehow my soy powder doesn’t want to mix well with hot water? I don’t know what’s up but these days all my soy drinks look like there are maggots floating on top. Tasty description, I know, but it is actually pretty delicious with NuNaturals drops in there! Also hot chocolate, 2 nori sheets, 1/2 a massive cucumber and some no-sugar jelly for pudding.

soydrink puddingsnacksAnnnd for all the unpictured stuff! Last night Freyja caught a baby mouse/rat and broke it’s back, so after that I was up for a few hours feeling very depressed and ended up face-first in a 1/2 cup of soy milk with 2 TBSP flax powder, some all bran, 2 TBSP oat bran, followed by another 1/2 small papaya and a wholewheat wrap stuff with spinach and a vegan sausage *koff* It’s no secret I comfort eat myself to the point of stuffation, but seeing animals suffer really crushes me and then crushes my determination to overcome bad habits. Much like last week, I think, I want to make it clear that I’m not against late night snacks in general, but that for my personal internal system situation it usually means I suffer the whole of the next day, which is why it isn’t so smart (also, the wrap was probably unnecessary!). I need to learn to control my emotions a bit better and not rely on food to make me feel less or more of anything. Such is lifelong recovery from an ED!

In other news, my biopsy results came back clean and shiny! I was rather annoyed at the secretary who called and was all “ok bye have a nice life!” and I had to cut her off mid-farewell to sternly remind her that I still have all the symptoms and they’ve progressively gotten worse, so I will be seeing the doctor again, kthanks! She seemed rather surprised at my own form of logic (because apparently wanting a solution is totally weird in the world of medicine?!) but I’m going on the 8th to find out the “what now” tail end of the story, or if there are other tests he wants to faff around with.

Anyway, today I desperately need to complete assignments so that I’m caught up as far as possible before starting my new second job on Monday and can have my focus at work instead of in a mental library of torture 😉 Ciao meows!

    • Thanks Arlene! I’m probably going to be the first patient to beg to be sliced and diced :p I hope the WIAWs get a bit more exciting or that I finally figure out video editing and can do a vlog version one day 😀
