Life in Pictures Link Up # 3 of 2015 – holiday!

It’s time again for a Life in Pictures Link Up, with me playing co-host to Linda over at The Fitty! Lucky for you this week was full of adventure thanks to a holiday in the mountains. In case this is the first you’re hearing of the LIPLU, the point is to regale you with pictures of the past week with minimal text – for someone as verbose as I am, this is naturally a challenge and therefore something of a delight!

In case it’s a suprise to anyone, Man-thing and I are rather something of an antisocial breed of geek, and thus tend to take our holidays out of season when all the kids and their parents are back in the city, and we are sure to find holiday spots relatively free of humans. This year we went to the Waterberge in the Limpopo province, I’m guessing North something of Pretoria. There must’ve been about 5 other guests at the huge park/reserve, and they were all elderly, so it was a total win for us!

Lomogram_2015-01-28_10-29-28-AMThere were all sorts of buck and warthogs, monkeys and other naughty creatures that came right up to our patio to graze and make a scene. Baby warthogs are the bladdy cutest! Lomogram_2015-01-27_04-58-57-PM warthogspark.jpg lilliescollage.jpg buckNeither of us are especially adventurous, but Man-thing did manage one single swim in this ice cold weather. It kept on raining furiously at random times of the day, so we couldn’t really do all the hiking trails we’d planned to conquer. All the more reason to stay inside and watch ST:TNG season 1 😀 pool Lomogram_2015-01-28_10-27-14-AMThis is me in a nutshell. I told Man-thing that if ever we discovered ourselves to be fictional characters that were studied in a class, one of the big themes would surely be “he should’ve listened to Marfigs”. :p

bossyThere were lots and lots of fat, lazy lizards that didn’t even bother to run away, so stuffed were they.

lizard2 lizard1The place had super kitsch decorations, which of course is the charm of any African resort.

kitsch.jpg pathway.jpgWe were lucky enough to have some Game of Thrones on audiobook, so we listened to that as we drove up and down on our various adventures. Not too thrilled about the speaker, but I guess not many people are willing to narrate endless books that will probably never have a conclusion (thanks GRRM for nothing).

Lomogram_2015-01-27_12-51-54-PMWe also went to a predator sanctuary/rescue park where they rehabilitated predators, such as three-legged leopards and the like. We really missed our precious kitties when we saw these big cats! I stopped taking photos after the first animals because caged pictures never make me happy, but they were all adorable and seemed well taken care of. The place was filled with super hideous statues of random knights for some reason and the sword of Excalibur on two different spots. Weirdos. :p

caeser1Man-thing bought a Star Trek game for us to play, supposedly because I’m a Trekkie and it’s the only way he can get me to roll dice willingly. It was rather fun and I got to be the Enterprise, of course, though the game woefully failed to have Kirk as an option.

And there you have it! All in all not much happened but some animal gazing, lazing about, and lots and lots of Star Trek. We forgot my laptop charger and I had an allergic reaction to a lack of entertainment and precious laptopness, so we hauled butt over to the nearest town for an overpriced universal charger.

Lesson learnt – I will not survive the zombie apocalypse, purely because a life without shiny or internet is a shadowy, dull sort of existence. It was a good thing too, what with all the rain. I find that, since doing an undergraduate degree in English Language back in the day, my mind is forever ruined and I cannot read large tomes with swish and swagger as I once used to. Ah well!

If you’re keen to join in on the fun please add your link to the froggy widget at the end of this post, or else post a link to your favourite twitter or instagram hosted picture from the past week 😀

Ahoy, I’m Margaux! History teacher and freelance editor; wench to my Man-thing; volunteer at a cat shelter; and handmaiden to our kitsy cats, Gatsby, Freyja and Atlas. This blog is dedicated to vegan food, occasionally overthrown by pictures of foster kittens and other fluffy creatures. I love sharing ideas and recipes, so don't be shy: stop by and say hi!

    • Thank you Linda! I only got around today to finally sitting on my butt and getting to go through everyone’s entries, including yours. Thanks for letting me co-host, what a blast 😀

Also, Man-thing and I are such introverts that going on holiday once a year, along with the random fun-runs and hikes, are the only real opportunities we give ourselves to get away from technology and space out to the sounds of birds and stuff, if only for a while 😀

  2. Hi Margaux! My mom has that same saying on a magnet or pillow or something at her house. I totally agree with it and it’s me to a tee! I’m also reading GOT. What book are you on? I’m on the last one! I just need to get through it before the season starts and of course the book is over 1,000 pages!
    Nice meeting you! #LIPlinkup @ WholeHealthDork.com

    • Hallo! I wish I’d had that saying on a t-shirt when I was a lecturer :p We’ve finished reading the physical books, so we’re listening to Book 1 at the moment, and since audiobooks take forever we’ll probably still be busy with it by the time GRRM is retired from life. It’s such a thrill to read those books for the first time since they are so wonderfully intricate and exciting; so jealous!
