It’s time again for a Life in Pictures Link Up, with me playing co-host to Linda over at The Fitty! Lucky for you this week was full of adventure thanks to a holiday in the mountains. In case this is the first you’re hearing of the LIPLU, the point is to regale you with pictures of the past week with minimal text – for someone as verbose as I am, this is naturally a challenge and therefore something of a delight!
In case it’s a suprise to anyone, Man-thing and I are rather something of an antisocial breed of geek, and thus tend to take our holidays out of season when all the kids and their parents are back in the city, and we are sure to find holiday spots relatively free of humans. This year we went to the Waterberge in the Limpopo province, I’m guessing North something of Pretoria. There must’ve been about 5 other guests at the huge park/reserve, and they were all elderly, so it was a total win for us!
There were all sorts of buck and warthogs, monkeys and other naughty creatures that came right up to our patio to graze and make a scene. Baby warthogs are the bladdy cutest! Neither of us are especially adventurous, but Man-thing did manage one single swim in this ice cold weather. It kept on raining furiously at random times of the day, so we couldn’t really do all the hiking trails we’d planned to conquer. All the more reason to stay inside and watch ST:TNG season 1 😀 This is me in a nutshell. I told Man-thing that if ever we discovered ourselves to be fictional characters that were studied in a class, one of the big themes would surely be “he should’ve listened to Marfigs”. :p
We were lucky enough to have some Game of Thrones on audiobook, so we listened to that as we drove up and down on our various adventures. Not too thrilled about the speaker, but I guess not many people are willing to narrate endless books that will probably never have a conclusion (thanks GRRM for nothing).
We also went to a predator sanctuary/rescue park where they rehabilitated predators, such as three-legged leopards and the like. We really missed our precious kitties when we saw these big cats! I stopped taking photos after the first animals because caged pictures never make me happy, but they were all adorable and seemed well taken care of. The place was filled with super hideous statues of random knights for some reason and the sword of Excalibur on two different spots. Weirdos. :p
Man-thing bought a Star Trek game for us to play, supposedly because I’m a Trekkie and it’s the only way he can get me to roll dice willingly. It was rather fun and I got to be the Enterprise, of course, though the game woefully failed to have Kirk as an option.
And there you have it! All in all not much happened but some animal gazing, lazing about, and lots and lots of Star Trek. We forgot my laptop charger and I had an allergic reaction to a lack of entertainment and precious laptopness, so we hauled butt over to the nearest town for an overpriced universal charger.
Lesson learnt – I will not survive the zombie apocalypse, purely because a life without shiny or internet is a shadowy, dull sort of existence. It was a good thing too, what with all the rain. I find that, since doing an undergraduate degree in English Language back in the day, my mind is forever ruined and I cannot read large tomes with swish and swagger as I once used to. Ah well!
If you’re keen to join in on the fun please add your link to the froggy widget at the end of this post, or else post a link to your favourite twitter or instagram hosted picture from the past week 😀
