WIAW + getting motivated

I can hardly believe the week is half-way done, but so we have it, and it’s all the closer to the weekend, for which I’m super amped. Another 10km fun run/walk is in sights and I cannot wait to stretch the ol pegs and get some fresh air (in between holding my breath when we pass the cows). Anyway, WIAW (or rather, yesterday)!

Breakfast: coffee in bed (thanks to a Man-thing), a smoothie with 1/2 cup banana slices, 1/2 cup strawberries, mint, ginger, cayenne, lettuce and zucchini! <3, and 1/2 cup of oats with lots of cinnamon to boot. TBH I was thinking last night that I should try one of those insane big breakfast smoothies where people stuff a thousand bananas into one drink, but this morning I just couldn’t bring myself to do it. Still, I think I’ll try a Rawtil4 vibe next week, because I figure I shouldn’t smash something until I’ve tried it, although I’ll go bigger on the raw veggies and less wild on the fruit, because yowza!

bfastwiTea-time: baby corn, quinoa, 2 TBSP avocado, beetroot hummus, radishes, zucchini, coffee + melba toast (not pictured)

unnamed2Lunch: Cauliflower, 1/4 cup red lentils, salad stuff, pumpkin, zucchini, coffee

unnamedPost-work: 1 medium/small granny apple (not pictured), sun-dried tomatoes, cherry tomatoes + gherkins + coffee

snacknomsDinner: steamed zucchini salad with veggie soup, then more zucchini salad! Mmmm!

sadlad1wi zuchsaladwiPost-dinner: 1 red orange, 3 steamed carrots, 1/2 cup applesauce + basmati rice pudding + 1/32 of the recipe for my double chocolate trail mix bites. Oh, and decaf coffee (WOAH I drink a lot more coffee than I thought!

pudingwi carwiw pud2wiThat basmati pudding? Awesomeness. Little tiny bits of chocolate bliss? more awesomeness! 😀 Admittedly there is much excess and spoilage in yesterday’s fare, but I really can’t control myself when it comes to vegetables. I could easily polish off a kg worth of zucchini, easy!

Anyway, I have to admit I’ve been really bad the past few months with being completely healthful and mindful about what I do with my body and how I fuel it. After losing way too much weight at the beginning of the year, to the point where my ribcage could have been a xylophone, I got a bit freaked out and over-compensated in gaining weight again. Sometimes one goes through slumps and this has been a rather hardcore, long-term dip in overall motivation, but lately I’ve been super inspired by real-life people and also some bloggers and youtube-ists who have been rocking it.

Pickles & Honey has an interview with Blissful Chef Christy that was lots of fun to read, and inspiring to boot – it’s amazing to see that food bloggers are such well-rounded people that eventually let their interest and passion for nutrition filter through to the whole mind and body. I love reading Christy’s posts and being psyched for getting in touch with my physical strength, because being something of a wet blanket is no fun.

Emily posted a video the other day of her exercise regime that was pretty much 100% what I used to do when I lived by myself, before Man-thing and I were even bold enough to sit closer than two metres within reach of one another. It gets a bit tricky between furniture, cats, men, and life to find the time and space to bounce around like a crazy thing and throw dumbells everywhere, but I realized yesterday that excuses are lame, and that when you “cheat” you’re only cheating yourself.

I actually LOVE exercise, and nothing feels better than having flushed cheeks, a beating heart, and sweat pouring from the temples. I love that my body can move and function, although I would still be eaten in a zombie apocalypse. Still, it’s never too late to train and at least make them work for their supper!

What is your favourite form of exercise?

Do you have any music recommendations for heart-pumping exercise?

  1. Thanks for the shout-out! Happy to inspire and get out there and lift! We all start somewhere 🙂

    • Big pleasure! 😀 I think the trick is to find some form of exercise you love doing and go from there – I’m working my way to the weights section slowly but surely 😉

  2. I mix it up, run/walk, lift 3 days a week, elliptical and bike! Walking miles on the trail is my favorite especially early in the morning! So peaceful.

    • Woah, so jealous of the lifting aspect! I’m such a wet blanket I can’t even lift the bars without weights yet :p 100% agree on walking trails – almost like movement meditation. It’s a pretty sad thing that one doesn’t get to walk so much “naturally” in most cases because of indoor jobs or social activities that cluster around sitting down. Do you do fun runs or just wing it by yourself?

  3. I’m noticing a slight coffee theme here:D

I love swimming personally, but somehow never seem to get to do it, since not many people I know enjoy it/want to pay to go to a pool. I don’t love going by myself:/ Should maybe get over that and start though, as its the only sport I could really genuinely say I love doing, to the extent that I never want to get out of the water, even when I’m tired:p

Anything by the Prodigy is great exercise music. Or the Horses album by Patti Smith, particularly for running! :p

    • The coffee theme is slightly embarrassing, but OH so tasty :p

If you find something like that which you enjoy then I figure try it for a week, even if it’s by yourself! Usually people tend to respect the middle lane for serious business, not play-drowning each other or doing tumbles underwater. Some heart-pumping music in the car on the way, then maybe a book to take along just in case you get lonesome 😀

Oooh thanks, definitely going to try get my hands on Prodigy! I had some later albums by Patti Smith so I don’t know Horses all that well, but will try youtube’ing – I should honestly not be so musically ignorant!
